Back in May, Hengistbury released catchy single, ‘What Folks Don’t Know’ to widespread acclaim with features, interviews and live performances on the likes of Russell Hill’s Country Music Show, Off the Record, The Music Scout, UK Country Music, Nexus Music Blog, Folking.com, Belles and Gals and right here on Craving Country. They were featured in Lyric Magazine’s Hottest Country and Spotify’s Country Mix 2018 playlists. They were also named Artist of the Week by Richer Unsigned and Q Magazine.
Now they’re back, with new single ‘Shooter on the Mound’ and a brand new, debut album, Add Another Minute.
Having formed in November 2017, Hengistbury – made up of Jessie Mary and Pete Briley – have been hard at work ever since, making their debut album Add Another Minute. Hengistbury have delved deep into the array of instruments available to them to create a sound that is “distinctly unique” (Nexus Music Blog) and “charmingly country” (Craving Country UK). Their unique ability shines through in each track, my personal favourites being the upbeat ‘Anybody’s Fool’ and ‘Don’t Leave’, each using harmonies and instruments to create their “charmingly country” sound. Each song from the album has something slightly different to offer, so give Add Another Minute a listen.
The band shot the video for new single ‘Shooter on the Mound’ near their homes and studio in Dorset. Sitting next to Poole Harbour with nothing but their voices and ‘Harper’ a 1940s Gibson BR-9 Lap Steel, the video really showcases who Hengistbury are as artists and gives an insight into their influence and identity. Check it out below!
‘Shooter on the Mound’ and the full album Add Another Minute is available worldwide from all major digital stores and physical copies can be purchased via the band’s website.
Singer-songwriter Kerri Watt has released her own rendition of song ‘Never’ which she originally featured on with the band Embrace. Kerri’s voice is beautiful and lends itself to this track perfectly. Her version is somehow more emotional than the original, despite it being a solo track about the trials of a relationship.
‘Never’ was initially Continue reading “Kerri Watt Releases Solo Version of ‘Never’”
UK artist and singer/songwriter Jon Dearing has released a new single, ‘Matter To Me’. This is a simple song that really showcases Dearing’s ability, as his vocals stand out against a guitar driven background. This song could fit into many different genres and has the potential to be successful among the growing UK country landscape.
‘Matter To Me’ comes a year after Dearing’s last single, ‘Chasing’. ‘Chasing’ was featured on the likes of iHeartRadio and BBC Introducing. Both ‘Chasing’ and ‘Matter To Me’ will be on his upcoming EP.
Originally from Dorset UK, Dearing moved to Southampton to further his musical career. Along the way he has Continue reading “New Single From Jon Dearing”
Rotherham’s own, Lauren Housley’s new single, ‘The Sleeping Heart’ is out now! I love Fridays for new country music, and even better, new UK country music. I really, really like this one. I don’t think there is anything else on the UK country music scene currently, that’s quite like this new single by Housley.
Added to all playlists – check.
Without wanting to sound cliché, there’s something authentically country about Housley’s sound, in that it doesn’t Continue reading “UK Artist Lauren Housley Releases New Single”
Always happy to hear new music from new UK country artists! Hengistbury are a new country act made up of Jessie Mary and Pete Briley. In November 2017, the duo hunkered down in a tiny studio on the Dorset coast – filled with guitars, fiddles, lap steels, banjos and Continue reading “New Band Hengistbury Release Single”
Jess and The Bandits, a band made up of four Brits and one Texan, have released a new single, ‘World Still Round’, from their 2017 album Smoke and Mirrors. They’ll hope to follow in the footsteps of their last single, ‘White Lies’ which was added to Spotify’s ‘Very Nearly Nashville’ playlist, alongside artists like Continue reading “Jess and The Bandits Release New Single”
Maddie and Tae are back and better than ever! Their new single ‘Friends Don’t’ shows their growth since ‘Start Here’ in their vocals and their songwriting. Their last album was released in 2015, so it’s amazing to hear them back again after so long away. At each live show I’ve been to since then, they have given a taste of their new music with a few different songs and so for them to finally be released is exciting.
Their new single ‘Friends Don’t’ is all about what friends don’t do, but a potential love interest might, for example “They don’t talk about the future and put each other in it, and get chills with every accidental touch”. For me, Maddie and Tae’s Continue reading “Single Review: ‘Friends Don’t’”
It’s always a pleasure to review a single from a new UK country artist, but particularly when it’s a song that you can’t get out of your head. Perfect for the summer and for festival season, ‘Jackie D’ by rising pop-country artist Binky, is as wild and bubbly as the artist herself.
As country music in the UK is only growing, this seems the perfect time for a catchy pop-country song from London born talent. With a look of Miranda Lambert meets Kelsea Ballerini, and a sound like RaeLynn meets Continue reading “Single Review: Jackie D”
After a looooong wait from one of my favourite country duos, Maddie and Tae announced a new single due next Friday. ‘Friends Don’t’ is the first new music from the two in a few years, their last album Start Here was released in 2015.
Maddie and Tae have toured the UK multiple times in recent years, including their C2C 2016 appearance and UK fans have been lucky enough to hear live performances of a lot of potential new songs. It’s been a bit of a bumpy road for the duo Continue reading “New Maddie and Tae Music!”
Just in time for her appearance at C2C 2018, the UK’s very own Jeannine Barry is set to release her new single, ‘Sweet Spot’ this Friday, March 9th.
The new single comes just over a year after the release of ‘Bittersweet’ which reached the Top 3 of the UK Country iTunes chart, a huge deal for any UK country artist. The singer-songwriter has been compared to Carrie Underwood, though her voice reminds me more of Faith Hill. Either way, not bad company to be in for Jeannine Barry.
Barry posted a sneak peak of ‘Sweet Spot’ on her twitter page. The song has a more upbeat, more established feel than her previous EP, with a sound that could put her in that Top 3 once again.
So if you’ve got a ‘Sweet Spot’ for Barry, then make sure to download the new single, Friday 9th March and catch one of her performances at C2C Festival in London next weekend. Barry will perform six times, on three different stages across the three days. Catch her stage times and locations below and support UK country acts at C2C 2018.
Also don’t miss Barry on Whispering Bob’s Under The Apple Tree Sessions tomorrow on Chris Country!
