Maddie and Tae are back and better than ever! Their new single ‘Friends Don’t’ shows their growth since ‘Start Here’ in their vocals and their songwriting. Their last album was released in 2015, so it’s amazing to hear them back again after so long away. At each live show I’ve been to since then, they have given a taste of their new music with a few different songs and so for them to finally be released is exciting.
Their new single ‘Friends Don’t’ is all about what friends don’t do, but a potential love interest might, for example “They don’t talk about the future and put each other in it, and get chills with every accidental touch”. For me, Maddie and Tae’s songwriting is second to none in terms of connecting with their audience, ‘Girl in a Country Song’ is still up there in my ‘songs I wish I’d written’ list.
The duos have previously discussed writing songs based on their own experiences or those by people close to them. There’s something about those truths that mean they manage to write with such sincerity about an experience or a feeling, in a way that is relatable and familiar, something that all songwriters aim to do.
What I particularly love about this new single is that it showcases Tae’s harmonies as much as it does Maddie’s main vocals, which wasn’t necessarily true of all of the songs on their first album. When hearing them perform live, Tae’s harmonies are so perfect and I can’t wait to hopefully hear more of that on their soon-to-be announced album. The duo have mentioned in interviews that their new album will follow the story of a relationship from start to finish, so I’m excited to hear how ‘Friend’s Don’t’ falls into that.
It’s always a pleasure to review a single from a new UK country artist, but particularly when it’s a song that you can’t get out of your head. Perfect for the summer and for festival season, ‘Jackie D’ by rising pop-country artist Binky, is as wild and bubbly as the artist herself.
As country music in the UK is only growing, this seems the perfect time for a catchy pop-country song from London born talent. With a look of Miranda Lambert meets Kelsea Ballerini, and a sound like RaeLynn meets Continue reading “Single Review: Jackie D”→
After a looooong wait from one of my favourite country duos, Maddie and Tae announced a new single due next Friday. ‘Friends Don’t’ is the first new music from the two in a few years, their last album Start Here was released in 2015.
Maddie and Tae have toured the UK multiple times in recent years, including their C2C 2016 appearance and UK fans have been lucky enough to hear live performances of a lot of potential new songs. It’s been a bit of a bumpy road for the duo Continue reading “New Maddie and Tae Music!”→
Luke Combs has announced new album This One’s For You Too, a deluxe edition of Combs’ number one album This One’s For You. The album will feature 5 new songs, ‘She Got The Best of Me’, which Combs has performed a number of times live, including at C2C 2018, ‘Houston, We Got a Problem’, ‘Must’ve Never Met You’, ‘A Long Way’ and ‘Beautiful Crazy’.
Prepare yourself for this amazing news! So many amazing artists have been announced in the line up for The Long Road. Lee Ann Womack, Angaleena Presley, Una Healy, Billy Bragg, The Shires, Aaron Watson, Brent Cobb, Danielle Bradbery and more are confirmed for the new festival at Stanford Hall in Leicestershire.
It seems that country music is only growing stronger in the UK, with festivals popping up all over the country, each holding their own with their impressive, unique line ups. The Long Road is a major music and lifestyle camping festival, perhaps fitting more comfortably with UK fans, as it fits in with the familiar summer camping festival scene. Set to bring the world-famous, inimitable sights and sounds of the country music scene to the UK in 2018, The Long Road will take place within the grounds of Stanford Hall in Leicestershire from September 7th – 9th 2018. It will present one of the UK’s largest, most authentic celebrations of country, Americana and roots music featuring Continue reading “Just Announced: Line Up For New Festival ‘The Long Road’”→
Bear with me while I recover from the weekend and cope with the fact C2C is over for another year. Before I post my reviews, here’s a list my Top 10 best things at C2C 2018, not necessarily in order.
1. Walker Hayes in the NY-LON Lounge Bar.
For those lucky enough to see anyone in the NY-LON Lounge Bar, you’ll know what an amazing, intimate venue it is. As a huge fan of Walker Hayes it was such a privilege to see him in such a setting and I only wish more gigs could be like that!
2. Lindsay Ell on the BBC Radio 2 stage.
The biggest disappointment for the initial C2C line up for me, was that Lindsay Ell only had a slot on the Spotlight Stage, when I feel that she is worthy of so much more. So, Continue reading “C2C Highlights”→
Just in time for her appearance at C2C 2018, the UK’s very own Jeannine Barry is set to release her new single, ‘Sweet Spot’ this Friday, March 9th.
The new single comes just over a year after the release of ‘Bittersweet’ which reached the Top 3 of the UK Country iTunes chart, a huge deal for any UK country artist. The singer-songwriter has been compared to Carrie Underwood, though her voice reminds me more of Faith Hill. Either way, not bad company to be in for Jeannine Barry.
Barry posted a sneak peak of ‘Sweet Spot’ on her twitter page. The song has a more upbeat, more established feel than her previous EP, with a sound that could put her in that Top 3 once again.
So if you’ve got a ‘Sweet Spot’ for Barry, then make sure to download the new single, Friday 9th March and catch one of her performances at C2C Festival in London next weekend. Barry will perform six times, on three different stages across the three days. Catch her stage times and locations below and support UK country acts at C2C 2018.
Also don’t miss Barry on Whispering Bob’s Under The Apple Tree Sessions tomorrow on Chris Country!
With only a couple of days until the release of his seventh studio album, Losing Sleep, Chris Young has been releasing sneak peeks of his new tracks on his Instagram page @chrisyoungmusic. It’s shaping up to be a pretty great album, check out the previews below!
Yesterday, Kacey Musgraves became Mrs Kelly 10 months after Ruston Kelly proposed on Christmas Eve. The couple both took to social media yesterday confirming it was their big day with Kelly saying he’d ‘finally found the real thing’. Too sweet!!!
While we’re impatiently respectfully waiting for wedding dress pictures – who isn’t dying to see what Musgraves chose – there have been a few snaps shared. Songwriter and good friend of the happy couple, Shane McAnally posted adorable pictures of his sweet babies at the wedding with his son as a ring bearer and daughter, a ‘glitter girl’.
