The wait is over! Carly Pearce’s debut album is here and it is amazing. Such a bluesy feel to this album, I love it.
While women in country are having to contend against everyone for recognition, it’s exciting to see Pearce’s album being received so well on social media and by critics alike. Some elements of Pearce’s album could be compared to Miranda Lambert or Maren Morris, like “Hide The Wine” and “Color”, but regardless of this, Pearce is smashing it all by herself, doing women in country proud.
While the album is true to her Kentucky roots, some songs ere more on the side of pop country, not that this makes it any less of a great country album. Tracks like “Color” and “Careless” have more of a pop-based feel to them, but the guitars and Pearce’s southern voice bring them right back to country.
“Hide The Wine” and “Catch Fire” on the other hand are evidently bluegrass inspired with the … and arguably two of the best on the album lyrically, along with “Every Little Thing”. The title track has been a serious hit and it’s not hard to see why. The arrangement makes it stand out from other songs in the country chart, with Pearce’s strong into soft vocals, against a gentle instrumental background of the piano and dobro. It’s musical perfection and a song that will create a legacy for Pearce, similar to Morris’ “My Church” and Cam’s “Burning House”.
It’s really tough to name the best song, so I’ll name a few that I think really define this album: “Hide The Wine”, “Everybody Gonna Talk”, “Every Little Thing”, “I Need a Ride Home”. As though there was any doubt, Every Little Thing proves Pearce is a true country artist, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for her.
Another Friday, more amazing music releases. This week has been big for new music!
Maren Morris featuring Vince Gill – ‘Dear Hate’
A beautiful track Morris released to raise money for the Last Vegas victims and their families. The track addresses hate and many of it’s actions over the years, before fighting back with the uplifting message that ‘love’s gonna conquer all’.
Luke Bryan – ‘What Makes You Country’
Arguably the best Luke Bryan track yet. It preaches a sentiment I have been living for so long as a UK country fan who loves all styles of country. Falling in love with songs like this is exactly what makes me country. Continue reading “New Music Round-Up”
Maddie and Tae are up there as one of my favourite artists to see live. I’ve seen them three times now and they never disappoint. I was at their Manchester gig at the O2 Ritz, and while at first I thought that it was a shame that the venue was smaller than last year at the O2 Academy, it became quickly obvious that it made no difference to the energy in the room. They walked on stage to Brothers Osborne ‘It Ain’t My Fault’ playing while the whole crowd sang along, and opened with the upbeat ‘Your Side of Town’.
I’ve been waiting for new Maddie and Tae music to be released since that performance of ‘Water In His Wine Glass’ in Manchester last October. From this perspective, their set couldn’t have been better with an even split of old and new songs which a few covers thrown in. I’m a huge fan of Right Here, Right Now and the harmonies on ‘No Place Like You’ and the empowering sentiments behind ‘Girl in a Country Song’ and ‘Sierra’ never get old. It’s for exactly those reasons, the harmonies and storytelling, that I need new Maddie and Tae music in my life ASAP. Continue reading “Gig Review: Maddie and Tae “

Country Music Week begins Monday October 2nd but the opening act is yet to be announced. The week is made to show off artists are having a big impact on today’s country music scene. Country Music Week is exciting for UK country fans as it shows that country is growing here as more artists are coming over to perform for English crowds. It makes the wait until C2C seem slightly easier!
While we know that the week takes place over 2nd-8th October 2017, we do not yet have a complete line up.

Like the rest of the world, I fell in love with Chris Stapleton’s voice the first time I heard it. Willing to listen to anything new that’s classified as ‘country’, I listened to Traveler as soon as it was released, not knowing what to expect. We all know how that one turned out, so here I am to praise From A Room: Volume 1 to the highest degree.
The album pairs country and blues perfectly, as he tells a variety of stories through the harmonicas and instruments making up the country twang. Search Stapleton’s name on Twitter and there is nothing but love for the album, the voice and the man himself. Despite his extraordinary talent, he remains humble, particularly when performing live – when we are most in awe. Also needing a shoutout is Stapleton’s wife, Morgane who in her own right is a brilliant singer/songwriter. She can be seen standing right there next to him on stage, singing those perfect harmonies. In her feature in the next issue of Billboard Magazine, Miley Cyrus has announced that she will be releasing new music next week, May 11th. This is the perfect time for Miley to make her mark in country as the genre needs more honest female perspectives.
Cyrus is pictured on the cover of the magazine, looking a far cry from her previous endeavours, but beautiful as ever, along with a caption describing her new venture as becoming a, “countrified singer-songwriter”. Her new single, titled ‘Malibu’ has been described as a, “gimmick-free…breezy love song”. Continue reading “Miley Cyrus To Release New “Countrified” Music”
